Children’s Museum of Houston

The Children’s Museum of Houston is a popular destination for area families. And with permanent exhibits both indoors and outdoors, there’s unique opportunity for fun and engaging hands-on learning. At the museum’s EcoStation biologists- and botanists-to-be can experience nature in a whole new way as they make tree rubbings, collect insects or literally dig into the dirt.

Outdoor excitement also awaits along a rushing fountain where kids can launch boats and other toys. Indoors, a Mexican village exhibit puts a new spin on the standard shop-and-learn play space found in most children’s museums, while the bubble factory and simple machine installations are more traditional but still provide enough activity to keep kids busy.

The farming exhibit features live chicks and tech-savvy youngsters can cool out inside the Cyber Clubhouse and play computer games. If you’re at the Children’s Museum of Houston during the weekend, you might be able to catch a live, kid-friendly performance in the auditorium.

The Children’s Museum of Houston is all-new and now twice as big! Rated a 5-star nationwide children’s museum by Citysearch.com, voted “Ultimate Kid-Friendly Attraction” in a Houston Chronicle readers poll, and tied for nation’s best children’s museums No. 1 spot in Child magazine, the Children’s Museum is A Playground for Your Mind™. The Museum is packed with 90,000 square feet of innovative, interactive bilingual exhibits for kids, ages birth to 12 years, housed in a whimsical Robert Venturi-designed building.

FlowWorks Exhibit

Fierce forces run wild and it’s up to you to tame them! Harness the power of water as FlowWorks bursts from the floodgates of your imagination into reality. This exhibit unleashes a tsunami of wet, wild fun! By using water as a medium for children to explore science and physics, they become researchers in their own right, investigating the awe-inspiring complexity of the movement of fluids. FlowWorks provides hands-on opportunities to experience and manipulate the concepts of energy flows through the medium of water.

This state-of-the-art exhibit dives into the forces and properties of water through currents, vortices and rapids, exploring the fascinating concept of fluid dynamics. It was designed with the quintessential question in mind: “What can it do?” From the big splash when a gargantuan cauldron empties into a reservoir 18 feet below, to the free-standing exhibit pieces, FlowWorks is off the hook! Water becomes a metaphor for all types of energy flow, whether it’s data, electricity, or motion.
