Best Houston Food – Off The Beaten Path

This city is one that’s full of good eats, but where’s the best Houston food? Well sometimes the best Houston restaurants aren’t the obvious ones — in fact they’re a little off the beaten path. The locals know that the Nickel Sandwich Grill in Houston’s 5th Ward is the place to go for authentic home cooking.

I sat down with Houston Councilman Jerry Davis at “The Nickel” as its known by the locals for a tasty lunch. And let me just say, it’s a place that will satisfy your trippin’ hunger, no matter what you’re craving. They’ve got everything from boudain and fried shrimp to burgers and barbecue! It’s an experience you don’t want to miss!

On a more personal note, this location hit me in a personal way as I’ve been watching the world hurt and wondering how we find a solution to the racism that exists in our country, including here in Texas. Click here to read my statement:
