Manager of Business Development and Sales

Company:

A leader in water treatment technology for the oil and gas industry.  We have developed a suite of proven environmental solutions designed for the treatment of waste water for reuse, disposal or discharge.   The company is planning for significant growth.

Area of Geographic Responsibility:  Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas

Location:  Houston, TX is the preferred location.  Midland or Odessa, TX area is the second choice; will consider candidates in other locations within the region of responsibility.  This is a work from home position.

Reports to: the Vice President of Business Development.

Responsibilities:

The following major responsibilities are included in the scope of this position:

  • Growing sales to meet company sales goals for several product lines.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with individuals responsible for leasing company products or influencing the placement of company products.

  • Ensuring that the company provides customers with superior support during pre-order, ordering, deployment and post deployment activities.

  • Recognizing new opportunities for company products and defining the requirements for such applications.

  • Obtaining orders in other regions on a selective basis.

  • Safeguarding company proprietary information.

  • Becoming and staying technically knowledgeable of company products.

The regular duties of this position include the following:

  • Obtaining orders for company products and services.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with appropriate people in the petroleum industry.

  • Presenting company products to customers clearly and accurately.

  • Developing sales plans.

  • Developing new customers.

  • Creating proposals and conducting negotiations for orders.

  • Write and review contracts and serve as liaison during contract negotiations with the customer. Secure contract approval from the VP of Business Development.

  • Identifying product improvements and new applications needed to satisfy customer needs.

  • Preparing customer correspondence.

  • Meeting with customers.

  • Preparing and delivering customer presentations.

  • Preparing and submitting technical and commercial proposals with support from the Controller and VP of Business Development.

  • Preparing sales forecasts.

  • Preparing reports on trips, and meetings, including sales calls.

  • Keeping the VP of Business Development informed.

  • Assisting in the development of product literature and marketing communications.

  • Making arrangements for personal business travel.

  • Representing the company with industry associations.

  • Giving presentations and conducting seminars about the company and its products.

  • Collecting information on competitors and competing products.

Requirements:

  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in sales and business development for high technology or industrial products.

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands on selling in the petroleum industry.

  • Has a “rolodex” of contacts who are Drilling Engineers, Completions Engineers, Production Supervisors, etc. at operating and service companies who you can contact to get a foot in the door for the company to explain the benefits and features of the services and technology offered

  • An aptitude and enthusiasm for high technology products.

  • Experience in preparing technical proposals and price quotations.

  • Experience in working effectively on a cross-functional basis within a firm.

  • Ability to handle and prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to work as a team member and as a team leader.

  • Ability to be work independently but keep supervisor regularly updated on sales progress.

  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the region of responsibility (many of the potential clients and associated travel will probably be in the Houston and Midland / Odessa areas); there will be travel to the corporate headquarters in the Western US on occasion. 

  • Must live in the region of responsibilities or have previous experience there, so you have the appropriate contacts in the region and an understanding of the industry in the region

  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship or time restriction or eligible for a TN Visa to work in the US.
