Intrest rates on my quater life crisis....a blog about being 20 something in a down economy.

We are known as, “Generation Y’s”, “MTV generation”, and “Echo Boomers”. Being born from the “baby boomers” we have grown to nearly 3 times the size of our parents’ generation. With this growth, has created extremely unique situations that have helped and hurt our demographic as well as our government, our politics, our advertising, marketing, and the way business is run today.

We Generation Y’s are the movers and shakers of today’s world. We have made it so that corporations cannot control the music we listen to, the news articles we are interested in, the clothing styles we choose because we are the generation that created the free-market on the internet through Napster, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter etc. We brought a new way to do business and advertise and network through social media. The baby boomer generation is trying to keep up with our momentum, but they sadly just DON’T get it.

To our baby-booming generation I say this. Wake up… get out of our way. Let us show you how to do business in this environment that we created by our own ingenuity. Your business is crashing in this economy so you let go of the high paid executives that are now flooding the market that was supposed to be going to my generation. Instead of hiring a Generation Y, you choose to accept the 50year old with decades of experience. And yet.. you wonder why your business is still not growing. Yes… it is easy to blame it on the economy. But in my opinion, the economy didn’t’ just crash because of sub-prime mortgages, it was a number of factors. One being, that Generation Y has created this new business environment with these social media networks, and new advertising venues… and the “Baby boomers” businesses don’t know how to function in that kind of market..

What you SHOULD do is hire a 20-something with the natural understanding of business in today’s new free market environment, and watch how we change the way we do business that is not only MORE lucrative, It’s also CHEAP, and EASY to do. Even if you don’t understand how or why everyone is Tweeting…or Poking..or Blasting… You SHOULD be smart enough to know that its time to get on board with it all, because it’s not going away anytime soon. It will only evolve into something else.

Today, it’s not about who you know… how long you have been in business… how much experience you have… how much accreditation you have… It’s about competing in the truest form of capitalism that this nation has seen… The one that my generation has created on the internet. Are you up for the task?
