[The following originally appeared in http://corporatedeathspiral.blogspot.com]
Back in the 1980s, management experts W. Edwards Deming and Peter Drucker wrote about the importance of an organization understanding its purpose in order to be successful. Unfortunately, we didn’t get it. Although many companies did develop highly professional and well-written mission and vision statements, they tended to be aimed at those outside the organization – investors and customers –… Continue

If you have kids, isn't it awesome to see them when they figure something new out.
If you don't have kids, is'nt it a "cool feeling" to reach that "a-ha" moment.
Well I've reached that "a-ha" moment when I figured out that what Zig Ziglar has been saying for years finally makes sense. "If you help enough other people get what they want, you'll get what you want" - or something like that. I know I could research it, but you get the idea.
The problem is most… Continue

I have no idea how to post "props" to Eric for creating this group. I met him about a year ago (10/7/07) and he taught me how to use LinkedIn. I grew from <20 1st degree friends to now more than 2100 contacts strong!! He did this and discussed other things to help me without asking anything in return. My first experience of selfless networkgin.
Finally on 10/8/08, I went to the local In-Houston even at the Tasting Room and it was amazing. I've been seriously networking for the… Continue

Today, I met with Tony Ackerman
and we had a great lunch at Panera at 290 and Tidwell.
Tony heard me speak at an NSTA breakfast about generating revenue using social media to meet new professionals and meeting them off-line.
While we were talking about the financial crisis, I mentioned that I am very passionate now about helping companies in a crunch from this financial crisis and he referred me immediately… Continue

Are you spending hours on social networking sites, sending out monthly newsletters, and cold pitching but coming up short on prospective clients? Then it's time to change the way you market.
Take a look around at your business space. Imagine that it's a popular mall that generates a lot of foot traffic filled with other businesses who offer well defined products and services related to yours but not in competition with your company. Make a list of the businesses you see sharing mall… Continue

They come from Arkansas, Florida, and South Carolina and all corners of the United States to help out. They chase disaster after disaster to provide moisture removal, debris removal, and tree & chain saw services. Anyone with a pickup and trailer can go into business to help in the massive disaster cleanup that has besieged our city. It has put pressure on the Federal, State and City to provide services for the influx of these helpers and they in turn fill up the hotel, RV parks and take on… Continue

Let me describe two competing companies.
Company A decided that they were going to go the traditional way and find "Angel" and then VC money to fund their new business. They had a hard monthly nut to crack and thought this would be the best solution. Prior to going to the "Angel" for the initial money, they built a business plan that included an exit amount of $10M for the owner.
Little did they know that they would have to revise that exit number when the "Angel" decided… Continue

When a business owner cannot get the funds to keep his company growing because of the financial crisis and the current credit freeze, s/he will turn to AMEX or VISA or MC. These are easy sources of credit, but they are much more expensive than necessary. There is a much cheaper form of finance.
It is called factoring and the deal is you sell your accounts receivable at a discount which is averaging about 3% across the nation.
Instead of paying off a bunch of individual… Continue

Thanks to Louis Gonzales, and Dr. Vetter, and PDG Houston and CEO Netweavers and ... well, alot of people, the InHouston Mixer tonight was a huge success. Thank you very very much.
Although some might assume so, I am not a very good networker. I am learning from the pros who show up to InHouston. I learned alot from these my mentors like George Kurisky.
The Tasting Room was also very kind to have our huge networking group and they said thanks to everyone for showing up as… Continue

In these uncertain economic times, I'm hoping that this posting could possibly help a business or two.
I have a question that I'm sure we've all considered over the last few weeks...
How will the present economic condition impact your business?
Now you can look at this question as a Duh moment or you can dig deep and really put yourself out there so that it becomes an Aha moment for someone.
Motive; You never… Continue
