France Telecom and Employee Motivation

France Telecom announced last week that it plans to begin basing up to 30% of a manager’s bonus on social criteria – which includes employee job satisfaction. It’s a good move, but did it take a rash of suicides for a company to hold managers accountable for creating a positive environment where people enjoy their jobs?

Will your Company buy Goods & Services from other Small and Med Business?

Can anyone give me feedback on, the lack of support that some companies show other small and med. size companies? Or does the information that they give, is not clear enough? To make a purchasing choice.

Bad Pay Practices Costing Employers Millions! - The Chronicles: Off-the-Clock Time

In my last post I stated that I would follow up with some of the pitfalls in complying with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Because the law and its regulations are so vast, I’ve decided to follow up with a series of posts in order not to overwhelm readers in one sitting. In this post, I’m going to focus on the way in which employers treat time as work hours and how this is can be a costly…

Deciphering the Harrapan Script

"We want to find the bedrock against which all further interpretation of the language should be checked," These are the words of Mayank Vahia, an astrophysicist in the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research in Mumbai.

Vahia is just one of the members in the team of mathematicians and computer scientists from institutions in the United States and India. It was they who opposed and rejected the claims of scholars who declared that the ancient tablet script found in the Indus Valley is… Continue

Bad Pay Practices Costing Employers Millions! - The Prelude

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) estimates that over 70% of employers are not in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This is the law that mandates a minimum wage and overtime requirements for certain employees. Just last week I was casually talking with a business owner about my company and the services we offer with regard to a Pay Practices Analysis. Generally, most people don't instantly relate to our service offerings without some added details. This business owner…

The lessons to business people from ACORN, Tiger and Toyota

ACORN, Tiger Woods and Toyota each tripped and fell, spiraled out of

control, responded poorly, and paid dearly.

The one common thread connecting them is that, as they rose to great success, no one

within their organizations asked - "How do we respond when, not if, but

when something goes wrong and there's a serious problem?"
ACORN, Tiger

and Toyota are proof that suffering a crisis is not a…

Are over the counter whitening systems safe to use?

The patients in my private practice often question me about tooth whitening products. My response is always the same: how much result are you looking for? If you want to slightly lighten the color of your teeth you could use a safe OTC product like Crest Whitening Strips. A box or 2 and you can get a shade or 2. WARNING: most over the counter whitening systems cotain an acid that will damage the tooth enamel, AND titanium dioxide which is the pigment found in white paints! Not good. The only… Continue
