Comment by Lela Donelson on June 17, 2011 at 7:31pm The Emergency Aid Coalition provides food and clothing to on a temporary basis to needy families and individuals. We also have an annual books and backpacks program where we distribute uniforms and school supplies to needy children.
We provide sack lunches daily to Houston's homeless population. The homeless carry all their worldly possessions on their backs usually in backpacks if they have one. I am seeing a growing number of homeless people come through my office requesting backpacks. Backpacks are so prized by this population that they are often stolen. The EAC rarely gets backpacks donated therefore we rarely are able to help these people. It would mean so much to this vulnerable population if InHouston members could donate their children's used backpacks to the EAC for distribution.
We are also in need of men's shoes and plus women's clothing.
Thank you for considering this worthwhile organization that is so near to my heart.
