Would you like to be quoted in an article?

I am writing an article about the do's and dont's of what should or shouldn't on a business card. I want an example of a do or don't based on your experience as a receiver of a card (i.e. hard to read, didn't fit your holder, couldn't scan, etc).

In addition, the quote should only be 1 or 2 sentences at most.

If I use your material, I will mention you, your title and company name with a link to your website/profile. It will show on examiner.com (Top 250 site in US on Alexa) and salescoachsite.com (top 3.2 million 1 month ranking worldwide on Alexa).

All entries need to be submitted by Thursday at 12pm. Please reply here or email them to rollis@salescoachsite.com. Thanks in advance!

Clear cards are interesting but hard to read in any environment.

Simple and classy is better than round or foldout etc.

The digital age we live in means most cards are looked at maybe once or twice.  Once I send an email to you, gist.com gets your info for me and I box your card.  Hard to search paper cards.  But cards are necessary leave behinds.

Professional business cards should be straight forward. Logo if you have one. Name of Business, your name, address, phone, etc..... 1-3 words about the business.

NO PICTURES!

Good, quality paper that is not white!  Parchment is my favorite.

No more than 2 colors

Rollis,

What kind of information to you come up with for your article? Looking forward to visiting with you soon.

Hi Rollis, the first issue is people really need to have different cards for different events. I have cards for networking events, and a card for formal business meeting or presentation (traditional business card), I would also print a different card for my media appearances.

Here's a mistake I see with some of my newbie business clients make, they will have two completely different business names on the same card - this deadly mistake, it confuses the buyer and the brand names.

Unused back side, you should have a free gift, a testimonial, or some message on the back side - after this can be very valuable space.

Let me know if I can help any further - thanks.

I agree with most of the comments except the idea of not having your picture on the card.  Research has shown that a person finds it more difficult to discard a business card if someones picture is on it.  It would be like throwing that person away.  I have my picture on my business card and find that people remember my name and me more.  They can look through all their cards at the end of the day and now there is a face to remember along with that interaction.

I would also recommend having at least one side of the card matte.  This way you can jot down notes to help you remember them (note: after the interaction- never write on someone's card in front of them).

Too much text, clashing blend of colors. Major distraction!
